Abstract
The course entitled “Project-Based Learning in Art History” is a rigorous curriculum that introduces students to art history but creates a better understanding of how materials and techniques were used throughout time. Students in 11-12th grade will be able to apply their knowledge and learning through projects integrated within each unit to develop a stronger understanding of the content. Students will be able to apply the design elements and principles of design within their artwork and recognize the different characteristics of various periods and cultures. There will be the use of two-dimensional and three-dimensional art within each unit, and students will be able to compare and contrast the differences between their artwork compared to historical artwork. Students will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of art criticism, analysis, and history after completing this year-long course. Through a final project, they will apply various historical techniques and materials to deepen their grasp of Design Elements and principles of Design and keep concepts of design, composition, and spatial concepts, all of which are essential for advancing to higher level courses both at the secondary level and collegiate-level.
