Publication Title

Art and Culture in the Multiverse of Metaverses

Abstract

The chapter addresses how modern technologies such as digital imaging, 3D printing, and virtual reality have revolutionized the ways in which art is experienced and engaged with audiences worldwide. It elaborates on the concept of “digital alchemy,” where technology acts as a transformative agent, allowing not only for the reproduction of existing artworks but also for the creation of new forms of art that challenge traditional boundaries. This chapter examines the democratization of art through digital means, which has made it accessible to a broader public beyond the confines of galleries and museums. It also discusses the impact of these technologies on the preservation of cultural heritage, enabling the restoration and public display of artworks that were previously inaccessible or deteriorated. The narrative weaves through historical precedents set by mechanical reproduction and moves toward current trends where digital tools empower both creators and consumers of art. By offering a comprehensive analysis of the shift from physical to virtual in the art world, the chapter highlights the changing paradigms in how art is perceived and valued in contemporary society.
