Abstract

The purpose of this study is to investigate the revenue and expense associated with a two-way communication company called Spectrum Communications. This study will examine the issues of planning, organization, funding and marketing, which are essential to a business plan.

The planning and controlling functions often get very little attention from owners of small businesses. The way to strengthen both of these functions is through an effective business plan. Only through an effective business plan can long range goals be established for sales, profits, competitive position and industrial relations. The information gleaned from this study will be used to compile a complete an effective business plan listed in appendix B.

Two professionals were selected to evaluate this project and to add credibility and expertise to the business plan. The two subjects chosen were Lois E. Meyers a member of S.C.O.R.E. (Service Corps of Retired Executives) and James Wolf a Vice President of Commercial Loans.

Meyers looked at the .plan form a management aspect and was able to recommend some ideas in planning and organization. Wolf viewed the plan from a financial stand point and focused on the financial condition of the organization.

Meyers felt that the planning and marketing sections were the strong points of the business plan. However, she stated that once the plan was put into action, the organization must stay on top the changing conditions and adjust the business plan accordingly.

Wolf stated with a high Debt Ratio and with the financial analysis showing very little growth, the loan needed to get the recommended amount of working capital, would have little or no chance of getting approved. He viewed the new venture as a "high risk" compared to similar organizations the bank re presents.

The business plan was amended to reflect the changes recommended by Meyers and Wolf and appears in the Appendix of this project.
