Abstract
This thesis, Vortex in a Cauldron of Evil: A Set Design for Macbeth, explores the creation of a theatrical set inspired by the themes of Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the macabre imagery associated with Charles Manson. The set design emphasizes Macbeth's descent into chaos and his struggle against forces he cannot control, symbolized by the theme “Vortex in a Cauldron of Evil.” The project incorporates elements like barren trees, lifeless skulls, and bloodied imagery to parallel Manson’s infamous legacy with Macbeth’s moral corruption. The thesis also details the design process, historical context, and artistic techniques used to evoke this dark vision.
