Publication Title

Art and Culture in the Multiverse of Metaverses

Abstract

The chapter examines how virtual and augmented reality technologies facilitate a profound re-engagement with historical narratives, transcending traditional limits of time and space to offer a more holistic view of the past. The chapter highlights the use of these technologies in creating interactive, immersive experiences that bring historical events, figures, and contexts to life, allowing for a multifaceted exploration of history from multiple perspectives. This chapter also discusses the concept of the “infinitely expanding shape of history,” which suggests that history is not static but continuously grows with new discoveries and interpretations. It emphasizes the role of digital technologies in spatializing knowledge, thus allowing for a macrocosm of interconnected historical narratives that reflect complex global interrelations and dependencies. Through virtual museums and interactive digital platforms, users can now traverse vast historical landscapes, experiencing the confluence of art, culture, and technology in shaping historical consciousness. The chapter proposes that these digital experiences can democratize history, making it accessible to a broader audience and ensuring a more inclusive representation of human civilization’s diverse heritage.
