Abstract
It is the intent of this project to form an evaluation of the myth and legend of the vampire. It is the intent of the author to use this evaluation to develop an original screenplay.
This project provides a historical foundation by discussing the vampire's legendary existence in different cultures , including the possible birthplace of the vampire myth, Eastern Europe. The author examines works of literature and other mass media to provide a wide spectrum of examples of the myths and legends of the vampire.
The vampire is a mysteriously alluring creature that has evolved from the common myths and legends of old to a permanent place is contemporary works of fiction and film. This examination explores the vampire character, and his ascent from villainy to popular cult icon by tracing his evolution from 17th century treatises and folktales to modern novels and films. Both historical and fictional sources are consulted and reported on in the research portion of this project.
This project includes an original screenplay, entitled All That Remain. The screenplay draws on both the standard myths of vampires and the modern translations of these myths. The author's intent in writing this screenplay is to develop a new angle of vision or synthesis growing out of this ongoing folk-tradition.
