The Confluence

Volume 3, Issue 2 (2024)

Welcome to the Confluence

Lindenwood University strives to provide real experience and real success for our students. Each article included in this issue highlights the amazing work our students do that provide them real experience so that they can enjoy real success now and far into the future. We are especially pleased to feature collaborative research done by faculty and students. This issue provides three works, one is a brief summary of research done by Dr. Hosto-Marti and her student, and two full articles that feature the findings of collaborative research done by Drs. Wintz and Golik with their students. Collaborative works like these help students apply their classroom skills to real world issues. Lindenwood students are prepared by these experiences for real success after graduation. Our other articles highlight the independent work done by our students from across the university and represent the thoughtful analytical, creative, and persuasive skills students develop at Lindenwood University. Each article adds to the on-going conversations in their respective fields and we are delighted to showcase their work.

About the Author

Brenna Colpitts creates unique illustrations and designs that tell a story, a story that will leave you wanting more. The thing that led to all of this was a movie called ‘Weathering With You’. A slow-paced animated movie with stunning visuals and cinematography. She loved the emotions it made her feel by the imagery alone. Ever since then, she has strived to create works of art that evoke emotion in the viewer whether that being from the theme, subject matter, or just the composition and rich color schemes alone. She wants people to feel something from her work, She wants to make an impression on the world that will stay for a very long time.

About the Art

Motel 6 is the second piece in the series ‘Love & Loss Playlist’ out of five. The series tells a story about two lovers through songs interpreted into illustrations. Motel 6 is an interpretation of the song Motel 6 by River Whyless that follows the first piece ‘Sunrise’; showing the honeymoon phase that happens in the beginning of the relationship. The words “Breathe it all back to life” is written in the piece coming from a lyric in the song. It helps show the new phase of the relationship where the woman tries to help the man after finding out the issues and struggles he faces. The candle signifying the man’s life.
