Virginia Louise Leak was born in 1940 in Dallas, Texas. She attended Lindenwood College from 1958 to 1962, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree with highest honors in studio art. In 1964 she earned a Master of Fine Arts from UCLA after which the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation awarded her a grant for continued study in the print medium. She died in 1977 at the age of 37. "Her craft competence was absolutely formidable, and her aesthetic sense of construction like that of no other artist I have encountered," said John Gullans of the UCLA faculty.
Leak's work has been exhibited at the Fleischer Anhalt Gallery in Los Angeles, the Cutshall Collection in Dallas, and in numerous one-person and group exhibitions throughout the United States. Lindenwood exhibited her work twice, once in 1979 as a memorial and again in 1986.
