Abstract
The history of every community is written in many places—documents, images, the built environment, and the past lives of its people. That history includes buildings no longer standing, but still tell the stories of the people who lived or worked there and their times. This website is about those stories in “Lost St. Charles.”
Every structure described here is gone, but gives us an insight into St. Charles, Missouri, during the Gilded Age and Progressive Era. It is about people at work and leisure, in business and home, as youth and adults.
