Abstract
This thesis will be an investigative look at fashion designer Lilly Pulitzer. The significance of this project is based on the discovery of Lilly Pulitzer as one of the most successful women entrepreneurs in the fashion industry. Despite Lilly Pulitzer’s success, not much has been written about her. The few articles found written about her restated the same information. The writings about her talk of her privileged background and her social status but do not delve into who she was as a person or the social stigmas that she dealt with by being a businesswoman during the 1960’s. The purpose of this thesis is to create a clearer picture of who Lilly Pulitzer was as a person, woman entrepreneur and designer. I will do this through analyzing articles written about Lilly Pulitzer in these roles and looking at some of her designs and dress patterns.
