Cal Louise Phoenix received her dual bachelors’ in English creative writing and sociology from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas. She was the winner of Beecher’s 2015 Contest in nonfiction, and her work has appeared in the likes of Gravel, Cactus Heart, and the Apeiron Review, with forthcoming pieces in Welter-Skelter and pamplemousse. Away from her desk, she enjoys hand-sewing, attends shul, and is exhausted by the constant effort required to resist nihilistic self-sabotage.
