Wisdom as an Emergent Property

Abstract
Social scientists engage the concept of wisdom in many different ways. Is it a way of thinking? A balanced form of deliberation? A consistent way of acting? What kinds of self-development does it require? Is it related to self-actualization? To knowledge and expertise? Will wise people be morally good people? Will morally good people necessarily be wise? Conceptualizing Wisdom as an emergent property of a moral-self system illuminates several important dynamics that help to address these questions.
